RRS 2005-2008 WINDSURF EDITION

Techno World Championships 2008 - after 9 races
Posted On:  15/08/2008 22:40:19
Another two races for all fleets today, the penultimate day of racing in the 2008 Sopot Windsurfing Festival.  Just a bit more wind would have been good, especially after the gluttony of last night's barbecue, but it remained tantalisingly light.

Jack Plummer had his worst day of the competition and slid back to second.  Martin Olmeta from France now leads the boys 6.8 fleet.  Kieran Martin, who won the first race today, stays in third place.  Artem Murashev from Russia had his moment of glory in this competition, coming first in race 9.

Italian Catherine Fogli maintains her top position of the 6.8 girls but the two behind her, Veronica Fanciulli (ITA) and Lara Lagoa from Spain, are tied on points.  It was a good day for Lara as she gained a second and first, nudging Naomi Cohen, who gained a first and a fourth, down to fourth overall.

Another Brit knocked off the top is Samuel Sills in the 7.8 boys fleet.  He really didn't want 14th in Race 8 but he came back to win race 9. Pawel Tarnowski keeps his third position but the points between him and second position have increased.  Italian Andrea Bellissimo had a brilliant day - outside the top ten all week he gained a first and third today.

In the girls 7.8, the top five remain in the same positions with Helene Noesmoen from France at the top with first and second today.  Unfortunately Izzy Hamilton's eighth in race 8 has widened the gap between her and Helene although she did take the bullet in race 9.  Ofir Halevy from Israel maintains her third position.

Pole Joanna Henschke has taken over the lead in the women's open by winning both of today's races and Spaniard Marc Escandell won both of his to reinforce his position at the top of the men's open.

Last day of competition tomorrow - pray for wind!!
