The Techno 293 U.S. National Championship crowned new champions after three days, Aug 3-5, of ideal conditions at Vineyard Haven Yacht Club. French competitors Maxime Labat and Gael Cousin are on good form leading the blue and yellow U17 boys' groups. The 2010 Annual General Meeting will take place at the Worlds venue in Martigues, France. The committee want all member national class associations to participate.

If your association cannot appoint a delegate to attend, it is still possible to participate by returning the Voting Paper. This year we have added a section for comments - the committee want to hear from members about current and future developments.

The Bic Techno 293 fleet has seen something of a renaissance. As traditional yacht clubs have looked to untraditional sources for cultivating future membership windsurfing has become a focal point for their attention and the Bic Techno 293 is the tool of choice.

Young windsurfing stars, Kieran Martin and Jade Rogers, have today been named as part of Team GB's 40 strong squad of young athletes set to compete at the first ever Youth Olympic Games, to be held in Singapore next month (August 14-26).......( more )

Light winds today limited the young techno fleet to two races. Yesterday's winners were again dominant - with both Ronalds Kaups (LAT 194) and Monicka Kraszewska (POL 120) winning both races in their respective under 17 divisions. Competition is a lot closer at the top of the under 15 division, where consistency clearly paid off and Artur Kaikull (EST 134) tops the ranking.

Notice is hereby given of the Annual General Meeting of the International Techno 293 Class Association, to be held on Thursday 29 July 2010 at Cercle de Voile de Martigues, France. The detailed location of the meeting room will be published on the event official notice board. The meeting will be scheduled to start at 19.30.

Not since 1992 has a windsurfer representing the United States won an Olympic medal, when Mike Gebhardt won the silver medal in Barcelona, Spain. In 1984, the inaugural year for Men's Olympic Windsurfing, Scott Steele won a silver medal in Los Angeles, and Gebhardt won the bronze medal in Seoul, South Korea in 1988. Women's Windsurfing became an Olympic sport in 1992, and to date no American woman has won an Olympic Windsurfing medal.

Two further races were completed on the final day of the 2010 Sicily Grand Prix. Although 3 races were scheduled there was not sufficient wind mid afternoon to call out the racers for the third race. This meant any mistakes over the past 2 days would be costly as there were no discards allowed.......( more )

Day 5 and the final chance to claim a place in the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. An earlier start was scheduled to maximise the opportunity of racing but light winds meant a long wait on the beach! Tension mounted, and the deadline for the last possible start of 15.00 approached.......( more )

Once again the wind did not last long enough for more than one race. The result produced no change at the top the girls fleet, with Veronica Fanciulli (ITA 82) holding on to top spot despite posting her worst race score of the series to date.......( more )

Day 2 of the Civitavecchia Spring Trophy brought different sailing conditions and changes in the leaderboard at the close of racing. With 13-15 knots over the course area throughout the day, it was possible to start on time and to complete a full schedule of 3 races for both boys and girls.......( more )

Russian Artem Murashev and Mayan Rafic from Israel have a first and second each while Italian Daniele Benedetti sits in third with two fourth places in the boys' fleet. Israeli Naomi Cohen heads the girls' leaderboard with two bullets, Audrey Yong Pei Lin from Singapore took two second place results.

A nice sunny day greeted the competitors arriving at the event site for day 5 of the European Championship. Unfortunately it was also light winds, but at least the waves and swell had also disappeared. Eventually the wind was enough to call out the under 15 fleet and the under 17 girls. ......( more )

After the disappointment of no racing on day 3 it was a relief to be greeted by more sun, but less wind and waves, on day 4 of the European Championship! Originally scheduled as a "reserve day", full use was taken of a promising forecast to validate the championship for all techno fleets. ......( more )

Day two of the championship produced wind and waves in abundance, but today the sail out of the harbour channel to the course area was "manageable" for most of the fleet. The Under 17 girls had a long wait before getting their championship started - but at 15.00 their chance came. Day 1 - Sunny and warm weather with a light breeze met the competitors when they arrived for registration. Two tune-up races were completed before the big opening ceremony.
14 Bic sailors had registered, and 20 Kona sailors and a lot of dinghy sailors in different classes - in total it was over 500 sailors.......( more )

After 7 years the North Sea Cup returned back to the Dutch Brouwersdam. Competitors from France, Belgium, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands travelled to the Grevelingenmeer for two days of sunny and windy conditions. Club Nautique de Wimereux look forward to welcoming competitors of all classes and all ages to the 3rd stage (final) of the 2009 North Sea Cup. Results from the latest Youth regatta in Russia continue to illustrate the steady growth of competitive windsurfing. The development of the Techno 293 program has been invaluable in this process - check the report from Gelendzhik and the "Spring Youth Regatta".

Round 1 of the Belgian Championships took place at the weekend of 2/3 May in Grevelingendam. Forty two young racers from Belgium and Netherlands competed over 9 races in a wide range of conditions. The format of mainly course races included 2 slaloms. R1 to 4 were light wind races, R5 to 7 were 20 knots course races and R8 and R9 are slalom races.

The North Sea Cup is a well established series and multi class event that is lately enjoying a revival of interest. The resurgence is in no small part due to the growth of junior racing through the emergence of the Techno 293 Class.

The first event of the 2009 series takes place on May 9th and 10th - Ostend, Belgium - and hosted by V V W Inside Outside - Notice of Race

June 27th & 28th (Final), Wimereux, France - Club Nautique de Wimereux

This series, now in its second season, begins in Liepaja, Latvia between 4-7 June. The event forms part of the Liepaja Windsurfing Festival - Notice of Race

Two races were completed for all divisions on the final day of the championship. At first the conditions did not look promising for further races - but fortunately the wind settled and we were very happy to finish the series on 10 races.......( more )

Twenty five young windsurfers gathered on the shores of Lake Potrerillos, near Mendoza in Argentina, for the inaugural Techno293 South American Championships. The International Sailing Federation has published the qualification system and qualifying events for the sailing competition at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games. The inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) will be held in Singapore in August 2010 and feature 100 young sailors competing across the four sailing events: Boys and Girls Techno 293 and Boys and Girls Byte CII. The Australian National Youth Championships for the Bic Techno 293 concluded on 11th January. In the BIC Techno's second appearance as the Windsurfing Class at this Championship the entries have increased from 5 to 9 with the Girls getting an event this year with 3 female entries. ......( more )

Three good races today have really shaken up the boys 6.8 pack. Yesterday's leader Kieran Martin has not had a good day and drops down to third place, Martin Olmeta from France has moved up to second and Britain's Jack Plummer has moved up to first place.......( more )

Competitors, coaches and parents are reminded that the Bic Techno One Design Sail/Rig comprises 4 parts - sail, mast, boom (205-255), and mast base (32cm). Only these components can be used with the 6.8 and 7.8 rigs at the 2008 Sopot Worlds.

The 6.8 sail must be used with the 460cm mast; the 7.8 sail must be used with the 490cm mast.

The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) has announced the Bic Techno 293 windsurfer and the Byte CII dinghy have been chosen as equipment for the four sailing events at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.......( more )

- Together with the T293 OD boards between 15 June 2007 and 29 February 2008, board serial numbers potentially affected are between D044737 and D047097;

- Alone as a spare part between 15 May 2007 and 30 September 2007.

The 12 sailors in the GBR squad arrived last Tuesday and they began training in 5 knots and sunshine! By Thursday inland thunderstorms overnight had brought very chilly winds of 15 knots. At the 2007 Class AGM a proposal was agreed that the Class should undertake a selection process that will enable the introduction of one design rigs for the U15 and U17 divisions in international championships. ......( more )

Lega Navale, Civitavecchia will host the 2008 European Championship for Techno 293 (junior racers) and Raceboard Youth and Masters.

IWA Executive Secretary, Ceri Williams, has just returned from a visit to Italy to conclude the contract and discuss arrangements for the event with Marco Corti, Club President, and members of his organising committee.

The Andalusian Sailing Federation has now published the NoR for the IV New Year's Race. This regatta taking place from 1st to 5th January 2008 in Puerto Sherry is an ISAF Grade 3 Event for the RS:X but the Techno 293 0D shall race separately from the RS:X Class. Anyone wishing to come early to train or for winter training, should contact info@fav.es.

We need more events like this! National Associations are invited to submit events for inclusion in the international T293 calendar. Please send full details including date, venue, notice of race, contact details and website details to the IWA Office.

The minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the Techno 293 Class held on Tuesday 4 September 2007 in Formentera, Spain have now been published.

A great end to a successful championship. The organiser, Asier Fernandez, and his team, backed by the island authority and Balearic Island government, have delivered a memorable event at the first attempt.
