A nice sunny day greeted the competitors arriving at the event site for day 5 of the European Championship. Unfortunately it was also light winds, but at least the waves and swell had also disappeared. Eventually the wind was enough to call out the under 15 fleet and the under 17 girls. ......( more )

After the disappointment of no racing on day 3 it was a relief to be greeted by more sun, but less wind and waves, on day 4 of the European Championship! Originally scheduled as a "reserve day", full use was taken of a promising forecast to validate the championship for all techno fleets. ......( more )

Day two of the championship produced wind and waves in abundance, but today the sail out of the harbour channel to the course area was "manageable" for most of the fleet. The Under 17 girls had a long wait before getting their championship started - but at 15.00 their chance came. Day 1 - Sunny and warm weather with a light breeze met the competitors when they arrived for registration. Two tune-up races were completed before the big opening ceremony.
14 Bic sailors had registered, and 20 Kona sailors and a lot of dinghy sailors in different classes - in total it was over 500 sailors.......( more )

Attendances are growing again in this established series of events. Wimeraux attracted a good entry, with over 20 more competitors than last year. Competitors came from NDL, GER, BEL, GBR and FRA. ......( more )

After 7 years the North Sea Cup returned back to the Dutch Brouwersdam. Competitors from France, Belgium, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands travelled to the Grevelingenmeer for two days of sunny and windy conditions. Stop Press . . . Local Government Regulations mean that WPNSA regrettably cannot accept any campervans/caravans on site from the 16th August through until the 21st September.

The WPNSA and the RYA are aware that this impacts greatly on the event and have arranged for an alternative camping ground near WPNSA (5-10 minute walk) which can accomodate caravans, tents & campervans. The postcode of the site is DT5 1AU.

Results from the latest Youth regatta in Russia continue to illustrate the steady growth of competitive windsurfing. The development of the Techno 293 program has been invaluable in this process - check the report from Gelendzhik and the "Spring Youth Regatta".

Round 1 of the Belgian Championships took place at the weekend of 2/3 May in Grevelingendam. Forty two young racers from Belgium and Netherlands competed over 9 races in a wide range of conditions. The format of mainly course races included 2 slaloms. R1 to 4 were light wind races, R5 to 7 were 20 knots course races and R8 and R9 are slalom races.

The North Sea Cup is a well established series and multi class event that is lately enjoying a revival of interest. The resurgence is in no small part due to the growth of junior racing through the emergence of the Techno 293 Class.

Competitors, coaches and parents are reminded that the Bic Techno One Design Sail/Rig comprises 4 parts - sail, mast, boom (205-255), and mast base (32cm). Only these components can be used with the 6.8 and 7.8 rigs at the 2008 Sopot Worlds.

The 6.8 sail must be used with the 460cm mast; the 7.8 sail must be used with the 490cm mast.

The 12 sailors in the GBR squad arrived last Tuesday and they began training in 5 knots and sunshine! By Thursday inland thunderstorms overnight had brought very chilly winds of 15 knots. The Notice of Race for the SOPOT Junior, Youth and Masters Festival of Windsurfing has now been published. This event includes the World Championships for Techno 6.8 and 7.8, Raceboard Youth and Raceboard Masters.

Lega Navale, Civitavecchia will host the 2008 European Championship for Techno 293 (junior racers) and Raceboard Youth and Masters.

IWA Executive Secretary, Ceri Williams, has just returned from a visit to Italy to conclude the contract and discuss arrangements for the event with Marco Corti, Club President, and members of his organising committee.

The Andalusian Sailing Federation has now published the NoR for the IV New Year's Race. This regatta taking place from 1st to 5th January 2008 in Puerto Sherry is an ISAF Grade 3 Event for the RS:X but the Techno 293 0D shall race separately from the RS:X Class. Anyone wishing to come early to train or for winter training, should contact info@fav.es.

We need more events like this! National Associations are invited to submit events for inclusion in the international T293 calendar. Please send full details including date, venue, notice of race, contact details and website details to the IWA Office.

The minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the Techno 293 Class held on Tuesday 4 September 2007 in Formentera, Spain have now been published.

A great end to a successful championship. The organiser, Asier Fernandez, and his team, backed by the island authority and Balearic Island government, have delivered a memorable event at the first attempt.

French youngsters Tom Dubaelle and Gaspard Dalle took first and second places respectively at both North Sea Cup events held recently. The first event on 12/13 May in Ostend, Belgium had 37 Bic Techno entries competing in 5 races whilst the following weekend 35 made it to Wimereux, France for a three race event. First girl in Ostend was Alice Arutkin whereas Marion Coquelaere took the honour in Wimereux.

ASA Israel and the Israel Yachting Association are pleased to announce the 23rd International ASA Windsurfing Championship & the 13th Winter Games to be held at Eilat, Israel from 24-27 February 2008. ......( more )

At the recent mid year meeting of ISAF held in Paris the Techno 293 Class was formally approved as an International Class.

Since its conception in 2005 and being granted "Recognised" status by ISAF, the class has spread rapidly with fleets appearing on all continents. The class is widely accepted as the junior development board for all windsurf racing classes and the starting point along the Olympic pathway.

15 year old Sefton Powrie took the New Zealand Championship title with 9 bullets to count out of the eleven races sailed in total at Takapuna Beach. Second placed Max Harrison managed to score a first in race 10. Full results

We were unlucky! Not enough wind to complete a championship series; with only 2 races completed. However the race organisation was good and the race committee worked hard to deliver the championship.......( more )

III NEW YEAR'S RACE

RS:X (Grade 3) and Techno 293 Europeans

El Puerto de Santa Maria, January 2nd - 165 sailors from 16 countries have gathered under the warm winter sun for the III New Year's Race (1^st to 5^th January), which is hosting the first European Championships in the history of the Techno 293 class. ......( more )

2006 has been a succesful year for the development of the class with fleets appearing in all continents.

2007 looks promising for the continued expansion of junior racing, with 4 continental championships in the pipeline, beginning with the Europeans in Cadiz.

This year's AGM decision to introduce an "open" 7.8 division has also produced a positive response . . . bring on 2007!

The Formentera meeting will not be held on the 2nd - it is moved to the 3rd January, during the Europeans in Cadiz.

Two meetings have been scheduled for Tuesday 2nd January.

At 10.00 an "Equipment Inspection Seminar" will discuss the role of Inspectors and explore in greater depth the Class Rules as they relate to the Approved Rig Scheme. It is important that anyone wishing to become a class approved Inspector attends; a stepping stone to an application to ISAF for International status.

A survey of sails will be conducted throughout the championships; attendees will be expected to assist with this project.

At 19.00 an open meeting with representatives of the Organisers of the 2007 Worlds in Formentera, and class officials. Detailed info about the venue, travel and accommodation, will be made available.

At the culmination of the week long ISAF Conference in Helsinki, the Council rejected the aplication from Techno 293 Class for International status.

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on 2 August 2006 at the Lega Navale Club, Marsala, Italia (Sicily) during the Techno 293 2006 World Championship have now been published.

A great day's racing to finish off the series, with 2 races today a second discard, eleven races in total, and a new World Champion.

Guido Carli ( ITA 55) with a first and a second today is Techno 293 World Champion.

Last years winner, Alistair Masters (GBR 511) held his nerve and a second in the last race of the day enabled him to hold on to second place.

Third place overall went to Damien Rousell (FRA 171); and Girls under 17 champion was Sybille Bosch (FRA 100)

In the under 15 division: 1st Davide La Vela (ITA 1); 2nd Adrian Jimenez (ESP 33) ; 3rd Guy Raymond (ISR 311). Under 15 girls champion was Ofir Halevy (ISR 5)

Another light wind day, and another 2 races completed. The early signs were promising -sailors arriving at the race site in the morning were faced with a 9/10 knot breeze that looked to be increasing.......( more )

In November 2005 the Techno 293 Class was granted "Recognised" Class status by ISAF. The Class was born out of the Aloha Class, and underwent a transitional year in 2005 as the Aloha /Techno Class. The aim is the same - "a class devoted to fostering the development of windsurf racing for junior competitors around the world through the promotion of an inexpensive racing format."......( more )

The Andalusian Sailing Federation is pleased to announced that the 2007 Techno 293 Europeans will be part of the III New Year's Race, to be held in El Puerto de Santa Maria from 1st to 5th January 2007 (racing from 2nd to 5th inclusive). The Race will also include RSX M, RSX W and RSX Youth classes. Come and enjoy some winter sunshine and great racing.

The Notice of Race will follow towards the end of August.

Wednesday 2nd August 2006 at the Lega Navale (host club) Marsala, Sicily. The agenda has now been published. Full details of proposals to be voted upon will be posted on the website and circulated to member associations by July 19th.
Those voting members unable to attend will be able to submit a postal vote; or alternatively can submit a proxy vote mandate.

The competitors will find the information how to reach Marsala, the hotel accommodation and prices as well as the official notice of race and the entry form. Further information will be loaded later.

As concerns the camper allocation, we don't have a special area for campers. However they can be parked near the clubs and the competitors can use the facilities the clubs offer.

The first Spanish Cup for the Techno 293 Class will be held from April 28th to May 1st 2006 on the island of Formentera. It is an island paradise just off the coast of Ibiza, cheap easy flights from the rest of Europe, and all T293 sailors are welcome. Further details and the NoR are available from Deborah Powell.

The Notice of Race for the 2006 World Championships of the new TECHNO 293 Class is now published.

The "inaugural" championship will form part of the established Junior, Youth and Masters Festival, and will take place in Marsala, Sicily from 3st July to 6th August.

At a recent meeting of IWA Board of Directors, Ezio Ferin, Chairman of the Techno 293 Class, was installed as the 2006 IWA President. As the IWA enters its sixth year a major objective set by the Board is the continued development of 'junior windsurfing'. ......( more )
