Rio 2016 Programme, 2018 Youth Olympic Games And IOC Presidential Elections - The Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the 2013 Extraordinary IOC Session has concluded in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Please find decisions below that will be of interest:

2016 Olympic Games - Changes to the Programme

The EB discussed the topic of possible modifications to disciplines, events, quotas and competition formats at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and reiterated that any request from International Federations (IFs) that would result in a higher number of athletes or increased number of medals, thereby adding to the cost and complexity of the Games, would not be considered.

This therefore includes the request made by ISAF for an additional medal.

2018 Youth Olympic Games

The 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games will be hosted by the city of Buenos Aires in 2018, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge announced today following a vote by the IOC members at an Extraordinary IOC Session in Lausanne.

Buenos Aires, Argentina was elected ahead of Glasgow, Great Britain and Medellan, Colombia. For full results of the vote, please see below.

Prior to the vote, the Candidate Cities each had 15 minutes to give a presentation to the Session, followed by questions. Evaluation Commission Chair Claudia Bokel addressed the Session on behalf of the Commission.

The announcement was the culmination of a bidding process launched in September 2011, which originally included six Candidate Cities - the three other cities were Guadalajara (Mexico), Poznan (Poland) and Rotterdam (Netherlands).

After a thorough review of the Candidature Files and other relevant documentation submitted by five of the Candidate Cities (Poznan withdrew from the bidding process), the IOC Working Group, led by Claudia Bokel, presented a report to the IOC Executive Board (EB). Based on this report, the EB announced Buenos Aires, Glasgow and Medellan as shortlisted candidates at a meeting in Lausanne in February 2013.
