Techno 293 North American Championships - Final
Posted On: 08/03/2010 11:09:22 AM |
 |
Two races on the final day of the North American Championship hosted by Calema Windsurfing as part of the 25th Calema Midwinters.
Leonard Berenger from Mexico took first place, qualifying Mexico for the Junior Olympic games this year, followed by Jose Carlos Davila Torres (MEX), and Alejandro Molinor (PUR) in Third, qualifying Puerto Rico as the second country from North America that will be in the Junior Olympic Games in Singapore this August.
Alejandro took our Techno Race clinic prior to the Midwinters and was very appreciative of the help received.
Canada and USA have qualified for the Windsurfer Girls.
Congratulations also to 2010 champions - Marion Lepert, USA 143 (under 17 girls) and Rasmus Sayre, USA 09 (under 15).
"All in all the Techno Juniors were a great group and the energy from this division bodes well for the future of windsurfing." |

Techno 293 North American Championships - Day Two
Posted On: 07/03/2010 10:14:42 AM |
 |
The Techno 293 North American Championships had three more races today, Day 2, in excellent 6-15 knot conditions.
The Mexican Team has 1,2 positions in the junior men's Under 17 class with Ignacio Berenguer Lleonart leading the way. Importantly, only the top two countries (boys & girls) qualify for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore this August. Currently, the second country to qualify in the junior men's is Puerto Rico with Alejandro Monilor in third place overall.
Ian Stokes from USA is in striking distance in fifth place overall for that critical second country qualifying position.
Representing USA, Marion Lepert has a commanding lead in the junior women's division, and is dominating the North American Championship. However, due to IOC eligibility requirements (she does not have her full U.S. citizenship), Marion is not eligible to qualify USA for the Youth Olympics. Therefore the top two qualifiers are Audrey Caron from Canada and Margot Samson from USA.
The future looks bright for USA in the Under 15 division with Rasmus Sayre (MA) leading the boys and Charlotte Samson (FL) leading the girls division.
Tomorrow the conditions are forecast to be a little lighter and the organizers hope for three more races to crown the North American Champions and see who qualifies for the Youth Olympic Games. |

Techno 293 North Americans

 |
After the first three races of the Techno 293 North American Junior Windsurfing Championships, there is a tight race to see which countries will qualify for the IOC Youth Olympics this summer in Singapore. Thirty sailors (under age 17) are lining up to try to qualify the top two countries from North America (which includes Mexico, Guatamala, and all the Caribean nations) in both youth mens and womens divisions. Mexico's Ignacio Berenguer Lleonart leads in the Junior Men, followed by Alejandro Monllor from Puerto Rico and USA's 2007 Opti National Champion, Ian Stokes.
Audree Caron, from Canada, is the leading qualifier in the youth women. Marion Lepert (USA), although leading the girls championship, is unable to represent her adopted country under IOC Nationality rules.
North American titles will also be presented in the Under 15 age category, with Luke Muller (USA) and Charlotte Samson (USA) currently leading.
The U.S. Olympic Sailing Committee has announced that the top U.S. sailor that qualifies the country in men or women will be the United States representative to the Youth Olympics, Singapore, in August.

North Americans start on Friday Posted On: 02/03/2010 5:25:59 PM |
Friday 5th March begins the 2010 North American Championships as part of the 25th Calema Midwinters windsurfing festival. Over 20 competitors from 5 countries have registered to date, with late entries expected to boost the fleet to 30.
Sailors representing Canada, Guatemala, Mexico, Peurto Rico and USA will be competing for both the North American titles and the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) qualification places that are allocated to this continental championship.
Two boys and two girls will each qualify their nations for this summer's youth games in Singapore. Extra significance has been placed upon this event by US Sailing - should a sailor qualify USA for YOG, they will also be selected to represent their country in the windsurfing event.
